1. Using the site
Scovidex is free to read, and you do not need an account. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
Use the site for your own reading, cooking and growing. Please do not try to break it, overload it or copy it wholesale with automated tools.
2. General information, not advice
Everything here is general information about peppers. Nothing on Scovidex is medical, food-safety or legal advice for your own case.
A heat range is what a source published, and the pod in your hand can land outside it. Growing advice depends on your climate, soil and season, so treat our timings as a starting point.
For canning, fermenting and anything you plan to store, follow the tested guidance from the extension and food-safety sources our pages link to. If a recipe and a tested source disagree on safety, follow the tested source. When in doubt, ask your local extension service.
3. Heat and handling safety
Heat tolerance differs a lot from person to person. Start with a small amount of any pepper you have not eaten before.
If you or someone near you feels unwell after eating something very hot, contact a doctor or your local poison control center.
4. Accuracy and sources
We read every number on its source page before we print it, and each page lists its sources at the end. We still make mistakes, and sources sometimes change.
If you find a number that looks wrong, tell us on the support page. We check every report against the source before we change the page.
5. Our content and other brands
The text, the illustrations and the Pip character belong to Scovidex. The facts come from the sources we cite, and those sources have their own terms.
You may
- Quote a short passage with a link back to the page
- Link to any page on the site
- Print a page for your own kitchen or garden
Please ask first before you
- Copy a whole page, table or illustration
- Use Pip or our illustrations in your own work
- Republish our data in an app, a book or another site
You can ask for permission on the support page. Brand names belong to their owners. When we name a sauce, a seed company or a shop, we do it to describe it, and the name does not mean that brand works with us or endorses us.
6. Links to other sites
We link to sources and pages we do not run. We are not responsible for what they publish, and their own terms and privacy policies apply once you leave our site.
7. Ads and affiliate links
There are no ads on Scovidex today. We plan to show ads through Google AdSense. Some guides show product picks with Amazon links, and section 8 explains how those links work.
Before ads start, we will update and date these terms and the privacy policy. Readers in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland will see a consent banner before any ad cookie is set.
A commission never changes a heat range, a source or the order of a list.
8. Affiliate disclosure
An Amazon Associate link goes to a product page on Amazon and carries our Associates tracking ID. If you buy after clicking one, Amazon pays us a small commission, and the price you pay stays the same. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Product titles, photos and prices in our product picks come from Amazon and are shown as Amazon sends them. They can change at any time, so check the price and whether the product is in stock on Amazon before you buy.
The commission does not change what we recommend. We choose product types from what their labels and our extension sources say, and a commission never changes a heat range, a source or the order of a list. Every affiliate link is marked rel="sponsored", opens in a new tab, and sits above the disclosure line.
9. The app waitlist
The Scovidex app is an idea today. We plan to build it, but we have set no release date, price or platform.
Joining the waitlist gets you one email when the app comes out. It does not reserve a price, a feature or early access. You can leave the list at any time through the support page.
10. No warranty
We provide the site as it is. We work to keep it accurate and online, but we cannot promise that every page is free of errors or that the site never goes down.
11. Limits on our liability
You use the information here at your own risk. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for harm that comes from relying on a page, such as a dish that turns out too hot, a crop that fails or a jar that spoils.
Some places do not allow these limits. If you live in one, the limits apply only as far as your local law allows.
12. Changes to these terms
We update these terms when the site or the app changes, and always before ads or the app start. The date at the top shows the last update, and using the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
Last updated 2026-10-19.
13. Contact
Questions about these terms go through the form on the support page. It is the one way to reach us.
