Privacy Policy
What this site collects today, which is very little, and exactly what changes before ads start.

The short version
- No ads, no analytics and no tracking cookies run on Scovidex today. Some guides link to Amazon through marked affiliate links.
- The waitlist asks for your email only, and we use it once, to tell you the app is out.
- The contact form asks for your email, a topic and a message, so we can answer you.
- We never sell your data or add you to a newsletter.
- Before ads start, we update this page, date it and ask for consent where the law requires it.

1. Who we are
Scovidex is a static website about peppers: an index of chiles with their heat, flavor and uses, plus guides on hot sauce, growing and cooking. It is also the home of the Scovidex app, which is an idea today. There is no app release and no store listing yet.
"We" means the small team that writes and runs this site. The one way to reach us is the form on the support page.
2. What we collect and why
You can read every page without an account, a form or a sign-in. Two forms ask for details, and each one has a single job.
- The app waitlist asks for your email address. We use it once, to tell you the app is out.
- The contact form asks for your email, a topic and your message, plus your name if you choose to give it. We use them to answer you.
Neither form is connected to a server yet. So today nothing you type into them reaches us, and we hold no form data about you.
The server that sends you each page also sees your IP address, the page you asked for and your browser type. Section 7 says more about these server logs.
| What | Today | When we add ads |
|---|---|---|
| Email from the waitlist | Used once, for the launch email | No change |
| Email, topic and message from the contact form | Used only to answer you | No change |
| Standard server logs | Kept by our hosting provider to run the site | No change |
| Cookies | None set by us | Google and other ad vendors may set ad cookies, after consent where the law requires it |
| Data about your visit sent to others | None, unless you press play on an embedded video or post, or open a page with Amazon product photos | Google receives data to show and measure ads |
| Affiliate links | Marked links to Amazon; the shop may set its own cookie after you click | No change |
| Consent banner | Not needed | Shown in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland before any ad cookie |
3. What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your email or your messages.
- We do not add you to a newsletter or any mailing list.
- We do not run analytics, heatmaps or session recording.
- We do not build a profile of you from the server logs.
- We do not ask for an account to read the site.
4. Cookies and local storage
We set no cookies today, and the site does not store anything in your browser's local storage. Your browser may still keep its own cache of pages and images, which you can clear at any time.
When ads start, ad cookies arrive with them. Section 5 explains which ones and how you can say no.
5. When we add ads
We plan to show ads through Google AdSense. None run today. Before the first ad appears, we will update and date this page, and these points will apply.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to show you ads based on your earlier visits to this site and to other sites. Google's advertising cookies let Google and its partners pick those ads for you. Google explains this on its page about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
You can turn off personalized ads from Google in Google's Ads Settings. For other ad companies that take part, you can opt out at aboutads.info. If any vendor besides Google serves ads here, we will name it on this page and link to its own opt-out.
Saying no to ad cookies will not lock you out. Every page stays free to read.
6. Affiliate links
Some guides show product picks with links to Amazon. If you buy after clicking one, Amazon pays us a small commission, and the price you pay stays the same. We may later link to other shops such as Heatonist in the same way.
Every set of picks carries a disclosure under it: "As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases." The links carry rel="sponsored" and open in a new tab. The terms of use explain the rest.
Clicking an Amazon link takes you off our site. From that moment Amazon's privacy notice and cookie policy apply, and Amazon may set its own cookies. We see nothing you do on Amazon. Amazon sends us aggregate reports of clicks and qualifying purchases, with no names, emails or addresses. The product photos on a page with picks load from Amazon's image servers, so Amazon sees your IP address and browser type when that page opens. A commission never changes a heat range, a source or the order of a list.
7. Third parties
Fonts. We serve our fonts from our own server, so no font company sees your visit.
Hosting. The company that hosts the site keeps standard server logs, as every web host does: your IP address, the page you asked for, the time and your browser type. Hosts use these logs to deliver pages and to block attacks.
Embedded videos and posts. A few pages show a video or a social post. Until you press play or open it, your browser asks YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or X for nothing. When you press the button, your browser loads that provider's player, and the provider may then see your IP address and your browser type and may set its own cookies, under its own privacy policy. We set no cookie for it. If you would rather not load it, use the plain link under the card.
Links to other sites. Our pages link to their sources: universities, extension services, journals and government pages. When you follow one, that site's own privacy policy applies. We are not paid for those links.
8. How long we keep it
- Waitlist email: until we send the launch email, or sooner if you ask us to delete it.
- Contact messages: as long as we need to answer you and follow up on the same question.
- Server logs: the hosting provider keeps them for its standard period and then deletes them.
9. Your rights and how to ask
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also take back a consent you gave, such as your place on the waitlist.
Send your request through the support page and use the same email address you gave us, so we can find your details. Please do not send passwords, payment details or ID documents. We do not need them.
10. Children
Scovidex is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child gave us their email, tell us on the support page and we will delete it.
11. International users
You can read Scovidex from anywhere, and this policy applies to every reader in the same way. If the law where you live gives you extra rights, for example the GDPR in the EEA and the UK, you can use them through the support page.
12. Security
The site is a set of static pages, with no accounts, no passwords and no database of readers. That leaves very little to steal. No website is perfectly secure, so tell us on the support page if you see something wrong.
13. The planned app
The app does not exist yet, so it collects nothing. Before it ships, we will add an app section to this policy.
That section will say what the app stores on your phone, what (if anything) leaves your phone and why, and which outside services the app uses. If the app ever has accounts, it will also explain how to delete your account and its data, both inside the app and from a page on this site.
14. Changes to this policy
We update this page whenever the site or the app changes what it collects, and always before ads or the app start. The date at the top changes with every update.
Last updated 2026-10-19. Questions about this policy go through the support page.
